Winter Scenery at GottaGoat Farm

Winter Scenery at GottaGoat Farm

We both love and hate the winters here.

We get A LOT of snow. And with that comes a lot of plowing and shovelling and maintenance. Not to mention the cold. The animals usually do ok, but it can be really tough on them too. We lost one of our chickens recently due to a cold spell we’d been having. It can be really hard on their systems when the temperatures drop so low for days on end, even when they are in a well-ventilated, insulated shelter.

However, even when it seems to go on forever, winter can be such a beautiful season at our farm. Our elevation means that we often get low-lying clouds floating by. With those, come some truly amazing colours surrounding us. And when it snows and covers the trees, it can be breathtaking! There are times we are driving home, and come around the bend to our house, and it feels like we are entering a scene from a movie. I can only describe it as a “winter wonderland”. So although there are a lot of things we could do without during the winter, we just wouldn’t trade the scenery here for anything.
