Sophia was such a sweet and gentle goat.
Sophia joined GottaGoat Farm in January of 2016, along with several other rescued animals, including her brother, Frankie. We believe they were about 2 or 3 years old when they got here, and they were Saanen x Boer goats. Sophia was such a sweet girl, but she would continuously develop a “precocious udder.” This was a fairly unique condition that meant she would get an udder full of milk (normally it would be more watery than milk) without having ever been bred. As long as we didn’t try to milk her, it would dry up on its own. She did develop mastitis from this one year though, as her udder got huge and very engorged. We were fortunate enough to be able to treat it effectively though. Sadly, Sophia was attacked and killed by a bear several years ago, and her brother Frankie passed away in January of 2024. Frankie and Sophia were a big part of our farm for many years, and we miss them dearly. The photo I chose to display for Sophia was on the day we brought them home (she is on the left).
