Skyy is a wonderful example of a commercial dairy breed called an Alpine.
We bought Skyy in May of 2021, when a commercial dairy farm was downsizing. She was “in milk,” but she was a bit shy as she had only ever been machine milked and just one of several hundred goats in a large commercial herd. We named her Skyy (as in “Skyy Vodka”, although we do tell the kids she is named after Sky from Paw Patrol LOL). Skyy took to hand milking very quickly, and soon became our primary milking goat for a couple of years. She also developed quite the fun personality! Skyy loves to be the centre of attention, so she will do some really funny things to make sure everyone is looking at her. She is also a favourite at our Goat Yoga classes, as she will almost always claim a mat as her own (and she literally takes up the entire space, leaving our participants to try and figure out how to work around her)! Skyy is an unregistered Alpine goat.
