Lumi was our “evacuation baby!”
In the summer of 2022, we had to evacuate the farm due to a wildfire that was getting very close to us. We moved all the animals to various places, and all of our does had to be placed in a large pen together, along with all their kids that were born that year. One of our does, Delilah, ended up pregnant from one of the (several) Miniature Silky Fainting bucklings that were in together with all the does! Delilah was still occasionally nursing her daughter, Beetle, so we didn’t notice that she had developed an udder. It also wasn’t really obvious that she was pregnant, since the goats do get really fluffy over the winter when they put on their winter coats. So it was a HUGE surprise when we came out to feed them in January, and there was Lumi! We didn’t even know at first who her mom was. Lumi is a very sweet and spoiled unregistered Nigerian Dwarf x Miniature Silky Fainting doe.
